Since moving to Canada, I've realized that I know very, very little about the Canadian side of the Pacific Northwest.   So I've been using my spare time to draw and laser cut maps.

The first round are really about holiday presents for our family.  The maps were specific to routes between us and our family members.   The second round was a completely failed topography map of the Bioregion of Cascadia (so much beautiful bamboo veneer was lost...), but I'm working on round 2 of that one.

Round 3 will be a map of the West End and English Bay.  The plan is to laser cut the map into bamboo veneer and mount it over an LCD screen (or possibly an LED grid - but the LCD screen is cheaper).   Jacob wrote a little program collecting the real time data of the ships.  We need to figure out how to map them to the right scale, but once we do, we will be able to see the all of the cargo ships from our window and on the wall map.

This is the Cascadia prototype, pre-cleaning.
